The Department of Architecture, BUET runs link programmes consisting of study, research, lectures, visits, etc. with other international schools and organizations. Of note are research links of the Department with the Architectural Association School and Building Research Establishment of UK and with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. The department has traditions of maintaining strong collaborations with leading universities of the world such as Texas A&M University, USA and Kyushu University Japan. Collaborations with these universities have proved successful incapacity building of the faculties and obtaining course materials and laboratory equipment.
Recent collaboration work could be mentioned as following: collaboration with University of Maryland (UM) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), to introduce a new training program and a PGD course on fire protection and safety for the graduate engineers in Bangladesh with multi-disciplinary backgrounds using available international models, and establish a state-of-the-art fire laboratory in BUET to conduct relevant testing and researches; Two-year participation in Designing resilience in Asia- International Design Competition and Symposium with National University of Singapore and CEPT University, India; Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia; Technische Universität Darmstadt, Deutschland; RMIT University, Australia; National Cheng Kung University, China (Taiwan); South China University of Technology, China; Université de Montréal, Canada; Louisiana State University, USA (2014). Agreement on Academic Co-Operation between Faculty of Architecture and Planning, BUET and Faculty of Design, Graduate School of Design, School of Design, Kyushu University, Japan to Develop academic, scientific and educational co-operation on the basis of equality and reciprocity and to promote relations and mutual understanding (2015); MoU between Faculty of Architecture and Planning, BUET and College of Architecture (CARC), Texas A&M University to Exchange of student, faculty, academic information and publications (2016); UNEP, Sustainable Social Housing Initiative, to increase the capacity of the local social housing stakeholders (2014).
The Department also established links with leading manufacturing companies in its effort to stay abreast with the building industry. At the same time, the companies fulfill their perceived social responsibilities through such collaborations. The aim of such collaboration is to increase opportunities for students, and improve their understanding of the culture and local values.
