The Department of Architecture (DoA), BUET has earned remarkable international recognition at the prestigious Global Undergraduate Awards (GUA) 2025. This year, five BUET students have been honored in the Architecture & Design category, placing the Department among the most innovative voices in global architectural education.
The Global Undergraduate Awards is one of the worldโs most prestigious academic awards programs. It is the only pan-discipline academic awards program in the world, identifying leading creative thinkers through their undergraduate coursework. Prizes are awarded across 25 disciplines by a non-profit organization under the patronage of the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. The UA Program is split into seven regions: Africa & Middle East, Asia, Europe, Island of Ireland, Latin America, Oceania, the US & Canada.
Leading this achievement, ๐๐ข๐๐ฐ๐๐ง๐๐จ๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐๐ข๐ฌ (batch โ17), Lecturer and recent graduate, has been named the Global Winner for his undergraduate thesis โ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ง๐-๐๐ฉ: ๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ค๐๐ ๐๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ค-๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐๐จ๐จ๐๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐๐ข๐๐โ, supervised by ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ก๐๐ง๐๐๐ค๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐ก๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐๐, the project reimagines Dhakaโs rooftops as interconnected urban layers, transforming them into vibrant public spaces. Selected from over 2,400 submissions worldwide, Ridwanโs entry was ranked as the highest globally in his category. He will represent BUET and Bangladesh at the 16th Annual GUA Global Summit in Dublin, standing among the worldโs leading undergraduate thinkers.
โข Jahra Jarin Jemi for โLife Between the Tides: Building Resilience for Manta Community in Transition,โ supervised by Prof. Dr. Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed and Maherul Kader Prince.

โข Aniqa Ibnat for โCyclic Home: Rethinking Roof as a Floating Structure for Flood-Prone Areas of Bangladesh,โ supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Zakiul Islam, Ar. Nahas Ahmed Khalil, Ar. Patrick D Rozario, Dr. Apurba K Podder and Nayna Tabassum.

In addition, four undergraduate students from DoA, BUET received Highly Commended recognition for their outstanding academic work:
โข Sakib Nasir Khan for โThe Transition: Adaptive Post-Disaster Shelters for Dense Urban Community Recovery,โ supervised by Dr. Asma Naz and Nayna Tabassum. Notably, Sakib becomes the first student to be awarded twice in this category, having also received recognition in 2024.

โข Maisha Tasnim for โBeyond Shelters: Weaving Resilience, Livelihood and Identity in Mongla, Bagerhat,โ supervised by Prof. Dr. S M Najmul Imam and Dr. Asma Naz.

These achievements reflect the Departmentโs commitment to advancing architectural education that responds to both local and global challenges. The Department of Architecture, BUET congratulates Ridwan, Sakib, Maisha, Jemi, and Aniqa for their remarkable success.
