Dr. Farida Nilufar is a Professor of Architecture at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, (BUET) Dhaka, Bangladesh. She served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning (2017-19) and as Head of the Department of Architecture (2014-16) in BUET. She had her PhD from University College London, London University (UK) in 1997. Her research focus is on Urban Morphology, Urban Design and Landscape, Water Urbanism, Architectural Morphology; Building types and Domestic Architecture. Her investigations involving Space Syntax have revealed the spatial character of Dhaka city. She has supervised a number of Masters and PhD Theses investigating spatial characteristics of built environment with special focus to Urban and Architectural morphology. She has been involved in International Scientific Board of ‘WATER URBANISMS’, a Cahier on Urbanism (Belgium) (2008-2014); also served an Architectural Journal, ‘Protibesh’, (BUET) in editorial role (2007-10, 2017-20). She has been working on Curriculum development and Accreditation for architectural education. She is the Design Team Leader of Uniform Design for Sonali Bank, Architectural design project of sixteen Regional Offices with Branches of Sonali Bank in different districts of Bangladesh (2005-20). She worked as Urban Design and Architect Consultant for ‘Regional Development Plan (RDP) for Dhaka City’ (2013–15) and was an Expert Member for Urban Design and Site Planning for ‘Detailed Area Planning of Dhaka City’ (2006–09). She worked as the Joint-Convenor of International Workshop: ‘Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) in BUET’ of UN-Habitat (2015). She also worked as Secretary, Environment and Urbanization, in the Executive Council of Institute of Architects, Bangladesh (IAB) (2019-20).
