The PhD programme is a research degree offering independent research in architecture for a person who wishes to advance teaching or a research career with a commitment to make an original contribution in the field.
The selection committee of the Department of Architecture selects a doctoral candidate provisionally and submits the name of the supervisor upon provisional admissions. Supervisor must be a full-time faculty member of the department of architecture, BUET who will then propose a doctoral committee upon consultation with the Head of the Department. The committee must be recommended by the BPGS and approved by the CASR (Committee for Advanced Studies and Research).
The minimum duration of the PhD programme shall be four semesters. A student must complete all required course work and dissertation within six academic years or twelve semesters.
The minimum qualification for admissions shall normally be an M Arch /MS Arch degree or its equivalent from any recognized Institution. For admissions to the PhD programme, an applicant:
a) must have a minimum GPA of 3.50 out of 5.00 or a first division or equivalent in any one of S.S.C. and H.S.C. or in equivalent examinations
b) must not have a GPA less than 2.00 out of 5.00 or a third division or equivalent in any of the aforementioned examinations.
c) must have at least 50% marks or a minimum GPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 or its equivalent in B. Arch.
d) must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 or its equivalent in M Arch / MS Arch degree.
