Simita Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She is specializing in resilient landscape systems as an interdisciplinary field. Her mission is to create sustainable, resilient, and adaptive ecosystems. Simita holds a Master’s degree from the Housing and Settlement Division in the Department of Architecture at BUET, with a focus on sustainable river and settlement relationships in relation to political economy.
In 2017, she joined the Department of Architecture at BUET as a Lecturer, and in 2021, she began her journey as an Assistant Professor. In this department, she has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses, primarily in housing design studios, as well as theory courses on vernacular architecture and rural settlements in a changing context. She also supervises final undergraduate projects and postgraduate research work focused on resilient settlement issues. Additionally, she served as a mentor in the International Competition for Designing Resilience in Asia (DRIA) for three consecutive cycles: 2018, 2019, and 2020/21. Her research centers on ecosystem restoration, landscape and regional planning, climate change resilience, and critical design thinking.
Before joining BUET, Simita served for one year as a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), where she taught undergraduate courses in architectural design studios. Her teaching approach prioritizes interdisciplinary learning and the practical application of theory. Simita has a strong research background, with publications in esteemed scientific journals and presentations at national and international conferences. Her research interests include interdisciplinary approaches, ecosystem design, coastal protection and resilience, and human-computer interaction (HCI) in landscape systems. In academic service, Simita actively contributes to paper reviews and evaluates postgraduate research work.
