There are five cells in the department. The five cells are Cells for Resilient Dwelling (CeRD); Green Architecture Cell (GrACe); Heritage and Technology Integration Cell (HERTEiNCE); Space Syntax; and REAC.
Cell for Resilient Dwelling
The exposure of housing to different natural and man-made disturbances, and the subsequent adaptations people make in their housing brought transformative changes in their relation to settlements. Causes and consequences of this transformation varies across an urban-rural continuum. At any point in this continuum, in the broader natural-built environment, problems of transformative changes arise when peoples’ ways of living and means of livelihoods erode their resilient relationship with the surrounding environment. Cell for Resilient Dwelling addresses people’s resilient dwelling by going beyond our present preoccupation with the physical form of housing and focus on its contribution to enriching lived lives in a changing society when resources are scarce and myriad environmental externalities abound.
Green Architecture Cell
GrACe aims to promote green architecture concept by way of advocacy, training, design and research in Bangladesh. It is planned as an open forum for Architects, Academics, Students, Researchers and multi-disciplinary professionals, Engineers, Developers and Civil Society members interested in green architecture in the Tropics.
Heritage and Technology Integration Cell
The department wishes to play a pioneering role to conserve and disseminate the rich history and heritage of the architecture of Bengal using modern technology. The Heritage and Technology Integration Cell will serve as a platform where the academics and professionals in architecture, archaeology, and history; along with the relevant government and non-government agencies can come together to find avenues to document and conserve the rich architectural heritage of the country. The cell will emphasize developing skillsets among the students and professionals which will enrich the history of the nation.
