Dr. Apurba K Podder

I completed my PhD in Architecture from the University of Cambridge, Masters’ in Human Settlements from KU Leuven and B.Arch from BUET. I have taught and supervised at both national and international universities, including Anglia Ruskin University UK, University of Cambridge. I am currently an Affiliated Scholar at the Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge and was a Fellow of Cambridge Philosophical Society between 2015 and 2016. My academic interests lie in understanding how different crises and constraints (i.e. climatic, landscape and man-made) shape human settlements, producing different combinations of socio-politico-economic spatiality and how these combinations operate in the contemporary urban dynamics. My research intends to uncover how ordinary people cope and be resilient against various forms of oppression and challenges, and the spatial knowledge systems they either produce or carry with themselves. For my doctoral research, I was nominated for Junior Research Fellow at the Society of Fellows, Harvard University. I worked as reviewers for the distinguished journals: Modern Asian Studies by Cambridge University Press and Planning Perspectives by Routledge and African Cities Journal. I also worked as an Editor of the Cambridge Architecture Journal. I recently served as Member Secretary of Urban Thinkers Campus 2019, which BUET organized as an Associate Partner of WUC of UN-Habitat, International Seminar-workshop: Architecture for the Displaced at BUET in collaboration with Danish School of Architecture (KADK). I worked with the World Bank in Metro-Dhaka Transformation project and currently serve in the Editorial Board of Connections for Sustainability Journal, Hague, Netherland.
