Description Planning theories: Substantive vs. procedural theories. Modes of planning: Blueprint vs. process planning, Rational comprehensive vs. disjointed incremental, normative vs. functional. Planning approaches: Traditional approach, Strategic approach, System approach advocacy planning, Participatory approach. Development control, planning standards, zoning, building by-laws, set-back rules, FAR. Spatial structure of cities: Concentric zone theory, sector theory, multiple nuclei theory. Planning practices in Bangladesh: Dhaka master plan 1959, DMDP (1995-2015), Detail area plan.
